Abstract

Home automation (also called domotics) is a field within building automation. Both of them have similarity on their operations. A little bit difference found on ergonomics side that domotic emphasized more. The advantage of using home automation is not only on it’s operations, but also have ability to increase security and energy saving. Beside that, home automation can give comfortable atmosphere for the users. Some operations inside domotic are include of controlling electronic devices (lights, ceiling fans, AC, TV, VCR etc) and mechanical devices (doors, gates, windows, faucets etc), along with monitoring by the security system that will response incoming threats. Problem of this research is, how to build and design home automation system that can be controlled and monitor from a short range over Bluetooth and wide range over the Short Message Service (SMS) by using only a mobile device. This paper will try to explain the way of solving that problem.
